Excellent - I think this shot proves you right after I scrubbed it a bit more with the toothbrush.
 

There's a bit more echinoid poking out above it now.

Picture at 20x magnification - visible object is approx 1mm wide by 2mm long.

 

Its sitting in/on top of what I think is a sponge - its on a piece from the cenomanian chalk.

 

The annoying thing is it looks familiar but I cant remember what context I have seen it in Ouch
