Hi all, I found this interesting rock and picked it up, its such an interesting shape. Posted to a geology forum and had a few suggestions that it might be a fossil. The size is about the size of a medium apple.. Don't have a ruler at hand. It weighs 7 ounces and is not magnetic.  IMG_20200417_135302.jpg  IMG_20200417_135244.jpg  IMG_20200417_135233.jpg  IMG_20200417_135228.jpg  IMG_20200417_135221.jpg

Hi. I found it in the west Midlands on some hills, near a small wooded area

I can't see any fossil there. It looks like a limonite concretion - it's possible there's something inside it.

Hi,
Was it anywhere near Rowley Regis? Looks quite like the spheroidally weathered basalt that outcrops and was/is? quarried in the area. If not then I'd go along with TqB and say some kind of iron oxide concretion originating from the coal measures.

Pete.
