Hello, can anyone tell me anything about this rock I've just found?

Thanks 15818392441261609062444903890292.jpg

It is a "desert rose" (not a fossil), which forms by the growth of gypsum crystals in a loose sand (in deserts).  They can develop quite quickly - I have found them in a pile of dug-upsand/silt in Abu Dhabi, where they must have formed in a couple of years or less.  The evaporation at the surface allows replenishment from below of the calcium sulphate - rich groundwater which rapidly saturates and adds to any crystals that have started to form.
Every desert rose is unique, and they make fascinating ornaments, but as gypsum is so soft, you will need to treat your specimen with great care to prevent damage.

You don't mention the locality you found it.

Wow, I absolutely loved reading that so interesting! I actually found it in a house move in a plastic bag haha so I've no idea at all where they were found, there are a few broken fragments in the bag so like you say it must've broken in transit some where. Thanks very much for your reply.
