Hi all, new here. I’ve been fossil hunting for the last 3 yrs and found a fair few bits and pieces here and there... however I never expected during the lockdown to find something within 300mtrs from my house.

Whilst taking my boys for our daily walk, we stopped to look under a rock for some bugs. The rock split and revealed these...

I believe it’s a Lepidodendron, and some fragments. But does anyone know what the eyelash looking fossil is? Calamite?

found in an old coal pit, now a nature trail.

Hi

What a brilliant find . I would be over the moon if I found that. I think I can see a horsetail, (calamites) the eye lashes could be the leaves that circle the stem like the modern ones do. You may be able to carefully lift some matrix to reveal more, try a needle stuck in a cork. If you do an online search you should find photos to compare your finds. Well done
Others may give you more specific information.

Thanks! I did use a pin on parts but it’s very delicate so didn’t want to risk causing any damage. I’ve compared most of it, it was just the eye lash I couldn’t find anything similar. I did wonder if it was an appendage from the tree perhaps.
