I meant by the originator of this topic.

Hello folks,

We're producing a TV series in the UK and are keen to
speak to fossil collectors. The series focusses on the important contributions
'amateur' palaeontologists have made to the science. To this end we're looking
for people (primarily in the UK, but we could maybe consider further afield)
with fossil collections (few hundred fossils or so) for our
experts to look at. We'd like to actually uncover some new information from a
current collector to supplement the many historical examples already being
shot.

Do you have some good specimens? Would you be happy to be
interviewed and/or a specimen to be filmed? Would you like us to pay for an expert to review your collection? Do drop me a message so we can give
you more information. There's no obligation and we won't share your details.

Regards, Derek

One person that should be included in any program about amateur collectors is Steve Etches.  His collection is outstanding in specimens and contributions to science.  Presently he is in the process of setting up a museum.

I have also expressed interest via a message

Sounds interesting! For some reason, I can't pm anyone, but I would definitely be up for it! Also, would you be interested in microfossils, as I have a pretty large collection of those!

Hello I am new to the forum but have been collecting since childhood (thirtyish years). I have over two thousand specimens of every major fossil group in my collection. I would be interested in taking part in such a program to show with a bit of luck a collector may find. Will post photos of some of my finds as soon as I can sort some out.

Derek,

Having collected and prepared fossils for over 30 years, I have a considerable collection of fossils, the majority of which I have prepared to a high standard, including some very good "multi blocks" of UK ammonites. I also collect rocks, flint artifacts and some minerals, all housed in a formal collection of some 5000 specimens. If you require more information or some sample pictures, please contact me by e mail.

Regards

Jeff

I think we ought to thank Derek for post this announcement, many new forum members have turned up, probably just followers that now have made their mind up and joined the community.

You are welcome to view my collection. If you go to my websites you will be able to get some idea of the importance of my specimens and the books that have been published by myself and others from the Medway Group.

Best wishes

Collecting fossils is a great pastime, and we all have opportunity to discover ''important'' specimens. Thats the great thing about this science. Much like astronomy, which is another interest of mine. Important contributions can be made. Notoriety is there for those who want it, if they get lucky enough !

Putting two and two together, I bet it was when they had Paddy Howe on Collectaholics. It was on the BBC.

I doubt this was the programme under discussion. The OP describes a totally different programme entirely.
