This is not technically a ‘recent find’ as we picked it up on the beach nearly 20 years ago but we struggled for years to work out what might have made this perfectly smooth circular indentation with a beautiful star at the bottom... we think it is probably a Crinoidea of some kind. For scale, the pebble is approx 6cm across its widest diameter... are we on the right track? We fondly refer to it as our ‘alien stone’... we just need to find the other half to open the portal 😉

Certainly looks like a crinoid stem in cross section. It's a little piece of art.
