Hello David, this is a difficult thing to advise on as there are so many factors to take into account, but I do notice that you mainly collect from Yorkshire and a lot of nodules are very Pyritic and the cheaper airpens won't last nearly as long as a good quality one and experience of prepping is all important!

As A Newbie to both collecting fossil and starting to prep tumble and polish other things i wanted an airpen and saw a cheaper alternative a dremmel engraver and a dremmel and a steady hand im getting some decent results for the money 🙂  http://www.dremeleurope.com/gb/en/dremel®engraver-391-ocs-p/
