Hi. We found this when splitting a rock from a fresh fall at Watchet. I have both halves. It looks Fisk-like and appears to have vertebrae, skin, and a snout or longer mouth with small teeth. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks

Welcome to the forum and what a superb find! Your microphotography is also very good. If you are unable to get very far on this forum please PM me and I know somewhere you can send your photos. I would suggest not touching it until ID'd then getting it professionally prepped.

It looks a lot like lobster carapace to me

Hi Janet - I did think of lobster carapace but that really looks like a jaw to me - but maybe I'm wrong!

Hello, I think it is a lobster been run over by a jurassic lorrie; it`s  the dimples that give it away...
The "jaw"section is the edge of a claw; in modern lobsters you can still see that feature.
Nice find!

Thank you so much to everyone here for your insightful views. I’m really excited that this may be a lobster, albeit slightly disfigured. I have two halves of this and I’d be interested in your views on whether it is worth getting it properly prepped and how much that might cost.

Hello, this is well worth having it prepped; a rare find. I think it is either a moult or a regurgitated carapace and I suspect it is the last...

Thanks. Any recommendations for someone to prep this would be much appreciated. Feel free to PM if you want, or just post here. Along with my young boys - very excited about this!
