Hi I found a fossil in the attic of our new house. It’s being lying around and I am currently use it as a door stop. However a parent who’s child was visiting mine commented on the value of my “doorstop” how can I find out if it’s true?

Hello LndyAnonymous and welcome to the forum. Firstly, you need to register before you can post photos. Please post photos from all angles wth a scale in each (a ruler is best). However, ths forum doesn't gve valuations as there are no set values to a fossl, but we will (hpofully) be able to tell you what it is, then you can can use the internet to find a similar specimen and estimate its 'value'.

The value is mainly the value of the preparation, rarity (from the locaton found / worldwide), but remember anything that might be new / important to science should be given to / offered to museums / other institions.
Sorry, lots of  and or's in there and to add to the list what the buyer is prepared to pay and where you offer it for sale. Oh, provenence and the occurrance of 'fakes'.
Hope this explains the stuaton - in a nutshell - too many variables!
