it may be a fossil mould of a bivalve, where did you find it ?

Thanks for your reply, Gary. This was found in East Hertfordshire, in the spoil dug out for a manege on the side of a slope. So it could have come from a depth of anywhere from a few cms to 2m down.

yes then probably a bivalve like trigonia.
