Recklesstemptress
Hey everyone I found this today ,amongst some other pieces. I pretty sure its poo, and pyrtized maybe? It's very heavy. Maybe someone knows the animal behind this beauty? 😄 I found it on walton on the naze in essex! Thanks!20200902_183742.jpg  20200902_183521.jpg  20200902_183447.jpg  20200902_183444.jpg

Dirty Pete
Reminds me of Mr Hanky having a nap but suspect it's just a poo shaped pyrite nodule.

I agree with Pete. Pyritised coprolite is virtually impossible to confirm. Very simply, to confirm any coprolte, you need to be able to see what the animal was eating, i.e. fish scales, plant material etc.

Very heavy is probably a clue.. Colin and Pete are right, its most likely just an Iron/Pyrite Nodule. Sorry to disappoint.

Brill thank you. These natural flints were also used as tools by early man?

Hi Flossy 174, yes, in that if you strike a piece of flint onto a Marcasite nodule (or Pyrite nodule), you will get sparks coming off to light a fire. This was done in many countries where flint and other metalic nroducts are found, and I sell Marcasite nodules to several people who run workshops ancient demonstration of firelighting techniques wordwide (it seems that the Marcasite I collect is of excellent quality, producing a very hot spark)!
