Hello all,

I found this in Kirkcaldy, on the beach. The darker parts are rather smooth and feel "flinty". 20200211_113744.jpg  20200211_113753.jpg  20200211_113801.jpg  20200211_113813.jpg

I'm afraid I might be imagining things, but could this be a bit of petrified wood? And if I'm lucky and it indeed is, can the age and type of wood be determined?

Thank you in advance for your kind help

Hi Blanche,
I think that's metamorphic. Migmatite maybe, looking at those complex folds.

Pete.
