Hi all,

Anybody able to help with this bones ID?

Found
this in the imported backfill of a local Kent quarry. I have my
suspicions its the proximal end of a scapular. Judging
from its very large size, I was speculating that it could be from an
Auroch, however someone has also suggested it looks like a wooly rhino scapular!

Measurments. Width at Top ; 138mm.  Width at minimum shaft taper 100mm.  Thickness 25mm to 37mm.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,flinter.
Very nice find. It does resemble a Pleistocene woolly Rhino scapulae especially the way how the acromion and spine of the scapulae is well developed/pronounced.

Nice find. certainly a big beast.

Shout me down for being a pedant, but the singular is scapula, and the plural is scapulae.  Just as vertebra is singular, and vertebrae is plural.

Time is nature's way of stopping everything happening at once.

Scapula/scapulae, ohhhh..... pedanticism with big brass knobs on!!!!

tom'ae'to, tom'ar'to, pot'ae'to, pot'ar'to.

At the end of the day, the I.D of a woolly rhino scapula looks spot on.

Hi quagga,
hope I didn't irk you too much with the 3rd spelling mistake of your name, it was a genuine 'airhead' moment... or perhaps too much red wine!
How do you get to edit your own posts and highlight the quotes? I really am a technophobe!
