Hi all,

My local friend did a little bit more today :)

Cheers,

I found another Lipo today. This time from between Golden Cap and Charmouth. Not the biggest specimen but looks to be complete with only minimal compression.

All I've done so far is wash it. I'll have a go at prepping it with my etcher later.

Cheers,

Matt

Nice find!

Not fair though :( I've only found a mangled one of these at seatown :(

Would be good to meet up Jason. I'm off work until Friday but will try to get down there at least once more this week.

I mostly only find mangled chunks! Adam. As others have said, they're mostly crushed or have centres missing. I've never found a complete one.

This is the closest so far:

Lovely find, liparoceras are such beautiful ammonites. I have two or three that I am hopeful might be complete, but I won't know either way until I'm able to prep them. I don't mind even if they're not, they are beautiful things even with flat centres, as Matt's one shows.

I've given up trying to prep it. The matrix is much harder than it looks.

I think I'll go back and try to find another one tomorrow (Wednesday) if anyone fancies meeting up?

Cheers,

Matt

Hello, Matt
Why don't you try having it professionally prepped?

Anywhere for little ammonites, twice as far for big ones!

Hi Pete,

I probably will at some point. Is there anyone local on here who could do it? I could even post it out as it's not very heavy.

Cheers,

Matt

I think Paddy might have a bit too much on at the moment. I could try him if I'm over that way tomorrow.

I can meet at 10.30 - 11am at Charmouth car park.

Cheers,

Matt

Sounds good. I usually use the car park behind the heritage centre as it's cheaper.

I think we can still get over towards golden cap at high tide?

MattFossil
Yes, the tides are cool. They'll be on their way out at that time anyway.

I usually park next to the ice cream van!

Cheers,

Matt

back to the Lipo, seems to be  an unusual species with a wide center, canƒâ€š‚´t remember the name in the minute....

HI,

I think they call him Liparoceras subhenleyi. I also looked it up in Martin Fosters paper. I donƒâ€š‚´t know, If the name is still correct or if they renamed it...But I would call him like that, typically the wide center and narrow ribs.

The detail on the shell is gorgeous! Pity the inner whorls didn't pan out.

There isn't anything there (except matrix, Karsten. There wasn't even a hint of the 'ramp' going down to the next whorl!
