Hello

I am new to the forum and to fossil hunting. I recently went to Charmouth beach and Llantwit Major beach (which is local to me) and it has given me the bug.

I was wondering if there are any groups that meet up to go searching? I have only been out with my family and it's very hard to search properly with a 5 year old child and a 40 year other half telling me they've had enough after 30 minutes! Ha ha!

Many thanks

Google around and see if you can find a local geology society - they usually arrange field trips. There must be something in Cardiff. If not, start one!

Hi

Thank you for your response 😊 I have already googled to see if there is anything around but unfortunately I can't find anything and my search brought me here.

Starting one is a good idea though given my lack of experience I wouldn't feel confident enough to set something up just yet.

Starting one is, I admit, a bit chicken-and-egg - to start one you need to know a few people, and to know a few people you need to join a society! But, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I don't think you necessarily need to be an expert on the subject to promote the formation of a society, more you need to be keen and good at persuading people. You could always sticks notices on village noticeboards or in local newsletters. And see if the museums will help, maybe even the universities.

Be pleased your OH lasts 30 mins - mine is usually crying "enough" and wandering off after 15 mins 😉) Maybe you can use the 5yo to subvert them!
