Assume that's a rock from the coal measures and the black striped stuff are fragments of fossil leaves, something like Cordaites.

Thanks for that I'm going back to where I found it to see what other things I can find. It's the first fossil I've ever found so I'm a little excited. 😁

Assume you've found an old coal waste tip, if so the preservation looks good so you could be lucky. Here's a link to the Coal Authority interactive map viewer, it displays the coal mining areas, coal outcrops etc...etc.....
