Hi there, i have just started collecting,yesterday i found this pebble on the beach,can anyone tell me what it is? I know its a stone/pebble but does it have a name/type? Holland on sea beach,North Essex

The light grey microcrystalline core resembles chert/flint but I guess could also be calcite/limestone. Looks like its been cooked in a furnace in some kind of industrial process which has altered the outer few mm. I reckon it's probably slag. Then again it could be a fossilised barbecued sausage.

PS It helps if you include something in the pic to indicate scale and whereabouts in the country you found it.
