I'm gonna take a stab at saying the dorsal side of a turtle and the pits are from the ribs???????
Fossil hunting...What a rush! :)

Found this in a stream in Wiltshire and I have no idea what it is. Looks really weird. Hard like stone and fairly heavy.

Hundreds of views but no replies. I guess that means everyone is as lost as I am on this one! It vaguely resembles bone.

Just a guess - but could it be a bit of sarsen with plant root impressions?

Tarquin's 'guess' may well be the answer to this puzzle for these reasons:

a) the rock is said to heavy and hard - as is sarsen stone
b) The triangular section on the right in the second photo looks very much like silcrete
c) The small holes resemble the root trace fossils often seen in sarsens.
d) Sarsens are common in Wiltshire.

The shape is unusual for a sarsen fragment but I don't think it rules out the identification.

Looks almost like a sacrum bone with the sacral foramina being the holes
