Hello. 

below are two pieces I found at Walton in the naze by the London clay cliffs. Thinking they could be fossilised wood?

Reckon you're right. Pyritised wood is quite common in the London clay....

Yes small fossil twigs, unfortunately very difficult to prevent pyrite decay.
