Dremmels are quite often used on the very spiny trilobites - it allows the removal of matrix underneath curved spines without the massive vibration of a scribe

you'll probably all gasp in horror but could I use the finer attachments on my husband's dremmel to remove matrix, can't really afford to buy anything. I certainly wouldn't touch shale with it but what about limestone?Embarrassed

Yes - that is exactly what I use. It's not perfect but will do the job.

gasp, oh the horror. Only joking. You use what you can I say. As long as you are happy with the results.
