By any chance does anyone know any fossil sites in Romania because I am thinking of going on holiday there and was just wandering if there were any locations which I could pop into and have a look around.

Turnu Rosu, Romania is one of the fossil locations in Romania. Part of the Paleogene Period is exposed here and deposits can contain fossilised shark teeth, bivalves, foraminifers, gastropods, crinoids, fish remains, turtle remains, crocrodile remains and sea urchins. Another fossil location would be Petrosani, Romania. Near Petrosani is a Northwest-Southwest oriented coal basin. Coal deposits from the Chattian, Oligocene and Paleocene period are exposed here. However these coal deposits are mined but on many places along the Jiu River you can find rock dumps in which fossils can be found. Deposits could contain Plant fossils in the families Dicotyledonopsida, Monocotyledonopsida, Coniferopsida and Filicopsida. There are also many other fossil sites available with information online. I hope this information helps.

https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Turnu-Rosu-Sibiu-paleontological-reserve-recent-collecting-points-are-marked_fig2_301889198

This publication has a map picture of Turnu Rosu (Sibiu) with the recent collecting areas marked with a boundary line of black dots. There are also pictures of fossils from Turnu Rosu and from around that area so hopefully that will give you a clear idea of the kind of rock that is fossiliferous and the kind of rock that will indicate where the main deposit of fossils are. I hope this helps you enough for you to have a clear understanding of the areas in Turnu Rosu that are fossiliferous and easily accessible from the area you would like to stay in during your holiday. I will try and find out more information soon.
