Hi

Just a couple of bits found this week. No dinosaur stuff I'm afraid.

Pic 1: Underside of a 3D section of ichthyosaur jaw.

Pic 2: Lungfish Tooth Plate with Small Shark Spine on top of it

Pic 3: A Large Neural Arch (Probably a Plesiosaur)

Pic 4: End of a Large Shark Spine

I've got my fingers crossed that some of these will prep OK.

Had a quick look at some of the bits I picked up last week.

Unfortunately, the small section of ichthyosaur jaw didn't contain any teeth but you can now see the groove the teeth would have sat in.

The shark spine in this block was poorly preserved, so I removed it to have a look at what I thought was a lungfish tooth plate underneath. It doesn't seem to be a tooth plate and I think it may be a gill cover from a big fish (but I may be wrong). Any suggestions welcome

I've done a bit of research and I think it is a gill cover or operculum. Here's a close up of the surface showing the patterns:

Hi Nick,

definitely the outside lobe of a broken tooth plate.

The structure on the bottom edge ( just above your scale bar) gives it away as well as the ornamentation. You can just see where the next lobe would start on the bottom left.

Hi Pete

I was hoping you were around. Thanks for the reply. I was even thinking it was a small coracoid at one point.

Hi

Some prep done on plesiosaur neural arch. It's preserved nicely in 3D, although there has been some bone loss on the exposed surface.
