Hi

Any thoughts on this collection of bones ? definite cross section “ bow tie “ of a vert.

Looks like verts and ribs. Where near Whitby?

Thank you both for your input
I can see what you mean about the paddle bones, but it’s all a bit of a mix up .
Do you think the dark circle in picture 4 is the end of a vert ?

IMHO get it professionally prepped and things will look a lot clearer!

Thanks
I’m not sure whether I’ll have it professionally prepped , or leave it as it is for a while until my skill level improves

Hi

Always difficult to identify bones from photos. I'd say that is a paddle bone, with the raised edge slightly eroded, and there is another, broken in half, along the top edge. I imagine the matrix is pretty hard, is it?

cheers

Paul

Hi paul
Yes the matrix is hard , but is has a worrying crack which runs most of the length, and straight through the vertebrae in the last photo

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim

Re, crack - oh dear. If it does break you should be able to glue the bits back together again, having cleaned the surfaces if necessary.

regards

Paul

I’ve put some paraloid solution ( 10%) into the pack to strengthen it
