Hi All,

I'm spending a week based Whitby late November and will be taking my Father. He isn't as mobile as he used to be and hard to access beaches will be a no go for him. We can get him down onto Sandsend beach and also the Whitby east pier beach (using the ramps). Does anyone know of any other locations that don't involve long walks down very steep hills/steps? There are many such a Robin Hoods Bay that just wouldn't be suitable.

Thanks for any suggestions..

Cheers

Hi,
First take a look at the Locations page, it normally gives you information on access. Of course I assume you have checked the state of the tides for the dates you will be there.

Hi, yes have checked the tides.

Looked through the locations pages already and they do dedcribe 'access', but most that say access is good/ok for all the family, are not really accessible for someone with some mobility challenges. Looking for places that you can access at beach level, even if via a ramp such as sandsend and whitby east pier beach which are ok. Not walking down very steep paths/multiple steps, as is the case with many locations along the Yorkshire coast.

So am interested if anyone has visited sites that are actually easier to access through experience.

If there are none, we will stick with what we have :)

Sandsend on the beach side, runswick bay is easy also you should check that out. Saltwick bay, but theres a short steepish walk down to the beach. If you cant manage RHB that might be a no go also.
Good luck and make sure to post your finds 😉

Thanks for the Runswick Bay suggestion. Yes RHB would be a bit too much for him unfortunately and I think Saltwick.

Cheers!

Hi I had a similar problem this summer as I broke my fib and tib in my right leg! The only beach I managed was mappleton. And I managed to walk down with crutches. Hope this helps!
