Flint found loose on the North Downs near Chaldon, Surrey:
Does anybody know what it could be?

I think this is 'banded flint' within a piece of flint. Will be interesting to hear other opinions.

...or a fragmented Inoceramid bivalve shell.  I think that I can detect some tiny intra-shell borings now standing out in the area of the dissolved calcite shell.
